Description of excursion
The Torii Gate marks the sacred grounds of the Higashi Shirauraura Inari Jinja Shinto Shrine, which was opened in 1914. The gate bears the inscription “In honor of the 2600th anniversary of the founding of Great Japan” – this mythological date was widely celebrated in 1940. From the upper platform there is an excellent view of the village, the sea and the hills.
Tikhaya Bay is a unique natural corner located in Makarovsky district, 130 km from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The bay is located in the Gulf of Patience, on the eastern coast of Sakhalin. The first Russian navigator Ivan Kruzenstern called the bay “Quiet”. The Zhdanko Ridge covers the bay from the road side.
Icefalls are a unique place. It takes about 40 minutes to reach the first frozen waterfall. You will be surprised and inspired by the winter views of Tikhoi Bay.
